Health insurance can refer to a variety of insurance policies depending on what they cover, how they ar​e purchased and paid for, and the rules that govern the health plan.

This guide provides general guidelines on types of health care insurance coverage, health plan designs, health plan options including those available through the Affordable Care Act, important terms and definitions, and the grievance and independent review process. ​​​

If you have a specific complaint about your insurance, refer it first to the insurance company or agent involved. If you do not receive satisfactory answers, contact the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance (OCI).
