Insurance Agent Licensing Exams Now Available in Spanish and Hmong

Translated agent licensing exams are part of OCI's ongoing efforts to ensure diversity and inclusion in Wisconsin's insurance industry.

Madison, Wis. – Insurance Commissioner Nathan Houdek announced today that the Office of the Commissioner of Insurance (OCI) has partnered with their exam vendor to offer insurance agent licensing exams in Spanish and Hmong.

“It's important that Wisconsin insurance agents reflect the population they serve," said Commissioner Houdek. “Expanding opportunities for agents who speak Spanish or Hmong to get licensed is one way that we can support greater diversity in our industry."

OCI licenses and regulates agents operating in Wisconsin that sell insurance policies for health, homeowners, travel, crop, and more. There are over 197,000 agents licensed to do business in Wisconsin and over 35,000 of those agents are Wisconsin residents.

“Insurance agents are a trusted resource for consumers looking to protect their home, health, and financial future," said Rebecca Rebholz, Administrator of the Division of Market Regulation and Enforcement. “By licensing more agents who are fluent in Spanish and Hmong, more consumers will be able to get the information they need from their agent in their native language."

Wisconsin law requires people applying for an insurance agent license to complete applicable pre-licensing education courses and pass an exam administered by PSI.
