Wisconsinites already covered through Healthcare.gov Save 42% on Premiums during Special Enrollment Period which ends August 15

Madison, Wis. — This week, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services announced that returning Wisconsin consumers are saving an average of 42% on health coverage through the federal marketplace thanks to the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA).1

Chrysa Ostenso and her husband, small business owners in Northern Wisconsin, were able to reduce their monthly premiums by re-applying for coverage through the marketplace.

“In 30 years of owning and operating our Optometry Clinic, insurance has never been this affordable for us," said Chrysa. “Our premium went down from $1,979 to $228 per month with the same deductible we had before. These new affordable rates are a whole new ball game, so I encourage everyone who needs health insurance to apply now!"

Existing enrollees that would like to find out if they qualify for these savings can simply update and resubmit their application. If no action is taken, existing enrollees that qualify will still see these savings when they file their 2021 taxes.

Over 25,000 Wisconsinites have gotten covered during the ongoing special enrollment period (SEP) as of June 30 with 25% of new enrollees finding a plan for $10 or less.2 The SEP will come to an end on August 15, 2021.

“Costs are at a historic low, but time is running out to get signed up," said Wisconsin Insurance Commissioner Mark Afable. “Find high quality plans with affordable premiums on the marketplace that will cover check-ups, cancer screenings, vaccines, and more before this SEP ends."

Wisconsinites that are currently uninsured, already signed up for coverage through Healthcare.gov, or eligible for COBRA coverage from a former employer, may all benefit from the new financial assistance that is now available. Additionally, consumers who received, or who are approved to receive unemployment compensation for any week beginning in 2021, may be able to save extra money with enhanced tax credits.
