Office of the Commissioner of Insurance
Holding Statewide Federal Health Care Sessions for Consumers

Madison, WI—The Office of the Commissioner of Insurance (OCI) has long been committed to public education and serving as a resource for individuals, families and employers across the state. The agency has a responsibility to ensure consumers of health insurance are aware of state and federal laws that may impact them.

Many key provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) become effective January 1, 2014, including the federal exchange which, according to the federal Department of Health and Human Services, will be available for enrollment beginning October 1 of this year.

As with any new law, there is always a certain level of confusion. While this is a federal law, it is OCI's role to protect and educate consumers about their responsibilities and how they may be impacted.

In an effort to provide a forum for citizens to gather unbiased information about PPACA, OCI and DHS are holding informational sessions across the state in the form of town hall meetings. These 90-minute meetings will be open to anyone who has an interest in learning more about PPACA.

Staff will be available to provide information highlighting the most important issues people should be aware of. They will also be available to answer questions. These meetings are informal and will be guided by the issues the people in attendance bring to the table.
