Bulletin, June 25, 2015, Surplus Lines Filings for Multistate Policies in Wisconsin

Date: June 25, 2015
To: Surplus Lines Agents, Direct Placement Policyholders, and Risk Retention Groups Doing Business in Wisconsin
From: Theodore K. Nickel, Commissioner of Insurance
Subject: Surplus Lines Filings for Multistate Policies in Wisconsin

During the period of July 1, 2014, through June 30, 2015, the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance (OCI) was an Associate Member of the Nonadmitted Insurance Multi-State Agreement, Inc. (NIMA). This change was for evaluation purposes only and during that time period OCI carefully evaluated the data collected by the Surplus Lines Clearinghouse. Based on that analysis, OCI has determined that it would not be advantageous for Wisconsin to become a full tax-sharing member of NIMA.

Therefore, effective July 1, 2015, surplus lines agents, direct placement policyholders and risk retention groups should no longer report multistate surplus lines policies to the Surplus Lines Clearinghouse but should continue reporting such polices to OCI as before.
