Bruijn-Hansen Appointed Local Government Property Insurance Fund Manager
Madison, WI—Wisconsin Insurance Commissioner Ted Nickel has appointed Brynn Bruijn-Hansen as the Insurance Program Manager of the Local Government Property Insurance Fund (Fund).
"I was very pleased that we were able to attract such an accomplished individual to manage the Local Government Property Insurance Fund," said Nickel. "Brynn brings a wealth of talent, and experience both with the fund and with property and casualty insurance more generally."
Bruijn-Hansen comes to OCI from the ASU Group, the insurance policy and administrative services contractor for the Fund, where she served as the account manager for the Fund and worked closely with the Fund during the past year. Bruijn-Hansen is very familiar with the Fund's operations, initiatives and direction and, according to Nickel; her addition will permit OCI to keep the Fund operations moving in an efficient, effective and timely manner.
Bruijn-Hansen received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1994.
The Fund was established to make property insurance available for local government units. The Commissioner of Insurance by law is designated as the Fund's manager. The Fund has one state employee who supervises day-to-day operations of the Fund by contracting for specialized services, such as claims and policy administration.
As of March 31, 2012, the Fund insured 1,107 policyholders insuring in excess of $50 billion of government property. Policyholders include 71 counties, 293 school districts, 153 cities, 175 towns, 258 villages and 126 miscellaneous (libraries, etc.) jurisdictions. The Fund collected $21 million in premiums in 2011.
Created by the Legislature in 1871, Wisconsin's Office of the Commissioner of Insurance (OCI) was vested with broad powers to ensure that the insurance industry responsibly and adequately met the insurance needs of Wisconsin citizens. Today, OCI's mission is to lead the way in informing and protecting the public and responding to its insurance needs.
