Long-term care refers to a range of services needed for an extended period because of a chronic illness or disability. It usually does not include the type of care received on a short-term basis following a hospitalization or an acute illness.

This guideexplains long-term care services, costs, and who pays those costs. It explains the types of long-term care insurance, provides buying tips, and identifies important questions and risks associated with long-term care insurance.

The guide also includes a list of resources available to give advice and answer questions.
