Insurance Commissioner Names Task Force
to Study Health Insurance for Small Businesses
Madison, WI--Commissioner of Insurance Connie L. O'Connell named members of a task force to study the state's small businesses and the health insurance market Wednesday. O'Connell will chair the 11-member group, which she said should produce its recommendations early next year.
Governor Tommy G. Thompson requested the task force to study Wisconsin's private health insurance market for solutions to recent problems. The losses incurred by health insurance providers have resulted in recent reductions in service areas and jumps in premiums for small-employer policyholders.
"I am confident the diverse representation on this task force will provide the expertise to examine the challenges faced by small employers and identify creative solutions," O'Connell said.
In addition to O'Connell, other members of the task force are:
- Timothy Bireley, president of Humana - Milwaukee
- Roger Breske, Democratic State Senator from Eland
- Steven Broeckert, vice president of Midwest Security Life Insurance Co., Onalaska
- Don Carrig, co-owner of a beer distributorship in Reedsburg
- Paul Corcoran, owner of a pharmacy in Richland Center
- Joe Decker, vice president of Blue Cross Blue Shield United of Wisconsin
- Paul Dell Uomo, president of Covenant Healthcare System, Inc., Milwaukee
- Jeffrey Mason, independent insurance agent in Ft. Atkinson
- Nancy Potter, owner of New Glarus Bakery
- Lorraine Seratti, Republican Assemblywoman from Spread Eagle
