Senate confirms appointment of Sean Dilweg
as Commissioner of Insurance

Madison, WI—The Wisconsin State Senate voted unanimously to confirm the appointment of Sean Dilweg as Commissioner of Insurance to head up the Wisconsin Office of the Commissioner of Insurance (OCI). Dilweg was appointed by Governor Doyle on December 29, 2006, to succeed outgoing Insurance Commissioner Jorge Gomez.

"It was an honor to be selected by Governor Doyle for this new role, and I appreciate the quick confirmation vote by the Senate," said Sean Dilweg, Commissioner of Insurance. "I look forward to working with the Governor and the Legislature, the staff at OCI and all those affected by the insurance marketplace to keep the Wisconsin insurance market healthy, productive and competitive."

Dilweg has come from a long background of public service, working most recently as the Executive Assistant at the State Department of Administration, where he worked closely, among other things, with the restructuring of the Health Insurance Risk Sharing Plan (HIRSP). Prior to that, Dilweg worked as an aide to state legislators and a lobbyist for Essie Consulting Group. Dilweg also has extensive experience with state government, working as lead policy advisor for members of the Joint Committee on Finance from 1998 to 2000 and also as Committee Clerk for the Senate Committee on Environment and Energy from 1995 to 2000.

Dilweg emphasized his goal as Commissioner to work together with consumers, legislators, insurers and agents to keep the Wisconsin insurance marketplace strong and accessible. He also stressed utilizing the vast expertise of many OCI staff members to accomplish this goal.

"This healthy, competitive environment in Wisconsin has resulted in some of the lowest insurance rates in the country," said Dilweg. "This can only be good for our citizens and economy. I also hope to be a voice for the many knowledgeable staff members here at OCI, and look forward to working to make Wisconsin better for all of its citizens."

Dilweg will serve as Wisconsin's 35th Insurance Commissioner.

Created by the Legislature in 1871, Wisconsin's Office of the Commissioner of Insurance (OCI) is vested with broad statutory authority to ensure that the insurance marketplace is responsibly and adequately meeting the insurance needs of Wisconsin's citizens. OCI's mission is to lead the way in informing and protecting the public and responding to its insurance needs.
